You heard right: the sequel series to one of the best animated shows of all time is now available for streaming on Netflix in Southeast Asia.
All four seasons of Avatar: The Legend of Korra is now up and ready for you to binge through. Why is it a big deal? Well, let’s break it down:
It’s a worthy follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender, taking place 70 years after that series.
It went through quite a bit of development hell due to its scheduling and production/airing issues, to the point where the writers and producers had to treat each season as its last. It pulled through, thankfully.
While its first and second season is a mixed bag, its third and fourth season “Change” and “Balance” upped the stakes. It showcased the full potential of an Avatar series with slightly older characters and mature themes targeted at its grown-up audience.
It also started the trend of LGBTQ elements and relationships expressed in full fashion on Western animated shows aimed for kids and teens. Those bits in Adventure Time (Marceline and Princess Bubblegum), Voltron: Legendary Defender (Shiro), and Netflix She-Ra would not be possible if a particular key scene in The Legend of Korra did not happen at all.
