Ghibli’s Earwig And The Witch Is Coming To US Cinemas & HBO Max
By Alleef Ashaari|January 8, 2021|0 Comment
Directed by Goro Miyazaki (the son of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki himself), Earwig And The Witch is based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones and was first announced last year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Earwig And The Witch will open in select theatres in the United States on 3 February 2021 in both subtitled and English-dubbed versions.
It will then premiere on the HBO Max streaming service on 5 February 2021.
The recently announced English-language voice cast includes Richard E. Grant, Kacey Musgraves and Dan Stevens, amongst others.
It will be Studio Ghibli’s first-ever CGI movie, which is a departure from the fluid and detailed 2D animation that the company is usually known for.
Earwig And The Witch follows a 10-year-old girl growing up in England in the 1990s, unaware that she’s actually the daughter of a witch. When she’s adopted by a strange couple, she begins to discover her magical powers.
Currently, Studio Ghibli is also working on another film, How Do You Live?, for which Hayao Miyzakai came out of retirement to direct it himself.
There’s no word yet on whether Earwig And The Witch will premiere in cinemas in Malaysia or the rest of Southeast Asia.
