Borderlands 3 Will Be Getting Crossplay Support, But…

Good news: after almost 2 years, Borderlands 3 is finally getting full crossplay support. Almost.

Soon, PC gamers can play with their Xbox One/Xbox Series brethren and co-op like never before. The bad news? Well, developer Gearbox Software was forced by a certain publisher to remove crossplay support for PlayStation consoles. In other words, there’s no crossplay for the PS4 and PS5 versions of Borderlands 3.

That certain publisher is 2K Games, though we’re not sure if the decision stems from 2K or Sony. One theory is that 2K Games isn’t willing to pay for crossplay privileges to Sony, since Epic Games does feature crossplay for PS4/PS5 users as long as Epic pays Sony. It could also be a certification issue; PlayStation crossplay functionality could happen at a later date or month.

Previously, Sony has been resistant to allow multiplayer between players on its consoles and those on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms. That stance has changed, thankfully.
