Bethesda Wants More Depth & Improved AI In Future Games
By Alleef Ashaari|November 10, 2021|0 Comment
It’s a big milestone for Bethesda this week as they launch The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Anniversary Edition to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. The company is also currently working on The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield, the latter of which will release in November 2022.
In a recent interview with IGN, Bethesda director Todd Howard gives us some insight on what to expect from future Bethesda games. You know, besides better graphics and bigger worlds. They want to make the games deeper and more complex, as well as feature better and improved AI and NPCs.
He said:
“There are a number of parts of it where we don’t go deep enough, where it’s a veneer in terms of its interactivity. Look, you can say that about anything, but I think when we think about games and what we want to do going forward, ok, whatever that system is, how deep can we make it?
The other part is the way the AI and NPCs really react to you—I think we have a long way to go with [that]. Those are probably the main ones.”
In the same interview, he also revealed his favourite Skyrim mod, which is unconventional to say the least:
“There’s one I like where someone added fast travel markers when you buy a house,” he said. “It would have taken [us] an hour.”
The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Anniversary Edition will launch on 11 November 2021 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4. Additionally, Skyrim Special Edition owners on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox Series X/S will receive a free upgrade to an enhanced version.
