Mortal Kombat Movie Sequel In Development

2021’s Mortal Kombat was probably successful enough to get a sequel, it seems.

Despite mixed reviews and fanfare, Warner Bros. film studio New Line Cinema will be hiring Fantastic 4 and Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater to pen the Mortal Kombat 2 script (via Deadline). Last year’s MK film was helmed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan (Aquaman, Malignant).

The MK film generated US$22.5 million during its opening week, and grossed US$84 million worldwide. This was enough to sate Warner Bros. given the stigma video game movie adaptations have. We didn’t think the Mortal Kombat movie was all that, but to each their own.

At the very least, can the sequel have a tournament happening and more Outworld nonsense happening?
