A New Need of Speed Might Be Coming This November
The next installment to the Need for Speed series is reportedly coming later this year in November, after a two year hiatus.
The game will still be released this year in November, according to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb on his Giant Bomb show, Grubbsnax. He also added that the game will focus support on current-gen consoles, being the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S.
“If you are a Need for Speed fan who has bought a next-gen console, here’s some news; it’s next-gen only. They are shifting to next-gen only.”
The last NFS entry we got was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered in 2020, with it being an even longer hiatus if you count Need for Speed Heat in 2019. In 2020, the franchise was handed back to Criterion Games after leaving the wheel to Ghost Games who developed the last four entries. NFS’ status was left in the air after needing to help DICE in developing Battlefield 2042.
EA COO Laura Miele originally claimed that the next Need for Speed will be released on the last generation of consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but it seems plans have changed.
Grub also reported that the setting could be in Miami, which seems rather unlikely knowing NFS Heat’s setting of Palm City to be based on the magic city itself. He also failed to mention a PC version, but EA is known to support the platform through its Origin launcher and partnership with Steam through EA Play.
With the NFS series taking the backseat for the past few years, a new entry to stand up to Forza Horizon 5 is definitely bound to make a ruckus.
