JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R Launches This September; Still 30 Frames Per Second

The 2D-esque fighting game based on the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga and anime will be coming out soon for current gen consoles and PC.

Bandai Namco announced that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R will launch for Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 2nd September in English. The game is made by developer CyberConnect2, who are known for their furry RPGs, Asura’s Wrath, and plethora of anime fighting games.

An “Early Access” demo of the game will be available soon for PS5 and PS4; this version features online player-versus-player and practice modes. In addition, the game will have a Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. The latter costs US$69.99 and has a Season Pass that grants access to four new playable characters:

  • Speedwagon (from Book 1)
  • Mariah (from Book 3)
  • Petshop (from Book 3)
  • Diego Brando (from Steel Ball Run)

The first version of the game came out for PS3 back in 2013. It featured a ton of characters from Books 1 to 6, and also from Steel Ball Run. It was fun, but pretty broken and ran at 30 frames per second which is a death knell for a fighting game’s credibility. As a fan service game though? It’s a goldmine. Hopefully the new additions in version R can spiff the next-gen versions up.
