RIP Heroes Of Newerth: 2009 – 2022
By Jonathan Toyad|June 21, 2022|0 Comment
One of the original MOBAs in existence, Heroes of Newerth, has shut down after 13 years of service.
The game was one of the main competitors in the MOBA circuit alongside League of Legends and Dota 2. The impending shutdown, announced last year in December, was due to the game’s long and slow decline in player numbers. The game was made and maintained by game company S2. The company’s other MOBA, Strife, did not fare as well as Heroes of Newerth and was shut down in 2018. While Heroes of Newerth was passed over to Frostburn Studios and had regular updates, people rather play League of Legends and Dota 2 instead; why settle for a third wheel in the MOBA space unless it was a mobile game like Mobile Legends?
Here are some parting words from the Heroes of Newerth Facebook page:
“Even though the journey of HoN has come to an end, we believe that all the valuable memories of our players through all these years will never fade away.”
At the very least, 13 years is a damn good run. Most games wished they lasted this long.
