PlayStation 5 Shipments Reach 21.7 Million, But Signals A Q1 Decline Overall

PlayStation’s lifetime shipments of the PS5 have reached 21.7 million units during Sony’s recent quarter. However, the company’s Game & Network Services division has posted a drop in sales and operating income.

According to its FY 2022 Q1 report, the company has shipped 2.4 million PS5 units during the three months ended 30th June. It’s a 0.1 million increase when compared to the same quarter a year earlier. Furthermore, during its earnings call, the company refused to be drawn on whether the current economic pressures could lead the company to increase the price of the PS5.

The company also saw a notable decrease in software sales and PSN monthly active users. PS4 and PS5 games software sales totalled 47.1 million during the first quarter, which is down from 63.6 million units sold in the same period last year. The number of PlayStation Plus users are at 47.3 million.

The decline is attributed to sales decrease of third-party titles and the increase in expenses associated with Sony’s acquisitions, particularly the one involving Bungie.
