[Rumours] Eidos Montreal Wants To Go Back To Making Deus Ex One Day
Modern Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal wants to return to the scifi series and hopes to outdo Cyberpunk 2077 in the process, according to sources in the industry.
Insider Jeff Grub said on Giant Bomb that any internal discussions about the developer going into the project are very early, though the studio is eager to return to Deus Ex.
“It’s early. The rumbling I’ve heard is that the studio wants to immediately get into Deus Ex. They want to get right back into that. They want to challenge – they want to do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t, and stuff like that. That’s the word going around. We’ll see if that happens. It’s so early, like what that will turn into. But there was no possibility for that conversation to begin under the current Square Enix, right?”
The company only talked about Deus Ex when they finally were under the Embracer Group umbrella following a US$300 million buyout deal where Square Enix sold them and Crystal Dynamics, as well as a couple of other IPs like the Tomb Raider series. With Embracer stating that Eidos Montreal is handling “very sizeable AAA experiences” in the pipeline, along with a Tomb Raider game in the works, people are clearly asking for this. It’s only fitting for the companies to deliver.
