Samsung Announces Galaxy Z Fold & Flip 4 Smartphones For Malaysia, Plus More Gadgets That Are Out Now
Samsung has unveiled a bunch of new flagship smartphones, smartwatches, and non-wired earphones aimed at the mainstream. Kakuchopurei was fortunate enough to check out these brand-new gadgets up-close and personal during a Samsung private media event, which also means some special photo opportunities.
We also have the specs and price tags of these bad boys, so let’s dive into it! Here are the gadgets on tap:
Samsung highlighted healthy lifestyles and health innovations before showcasing the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro. They both are very durable and packed with many features like a more refined Sensor Technology to understand your habits and monitor your health and activities better.
The Pro version stands out with its titanium housing for its chassis, big battery life of up to 24 hours, and also charges faster than anything on the market. If you’re a casual user who wants a watch/health tracker, the regular Watch5 will be sufficient. If you do way more hardcore outdoor activities like bouldering out in the wild without a safety harness, you may want to consider the Pro versions.
The Galaxy Watch5 costs RM1,099 for the Bluetooth version and comes in Graphite, Pink Gold, and Silver, along with a Bora Purple strap. The Watch5 comes in either 40mm or a larger 45mm.
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro will cost RM1,899 for the Bluetooth version and comes in Black Titanium and Grey Titanium with a 45mm display.
These Bluetooth headsets are just souped-up and smaller versions of the existing Galaxy Buds2 portable earphones. They’re designed to be premium (hence the Pro moniker), meant for daily basis use via the true-fit and aerodynamic design, and have more immersive sound than before with lossless audio and Hi-Fi 24bit Audio.
The earphones can also be used for all compatible devices, particularly ones with Smart Monitor tech. This means you can pair these earphones effortlessly to your giant Samsung TV to either watch or play loud games without bothering your folks or neighbours.
The Galaxy Buds2 Pro will cost you RM899 and comes in either Bora Purple, Graphite, or White. Assuming the audio quality is up to par for earphones (not headphones mind you; that’s a league of its own), I’d say go for it. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro earbuds are out right now.
Last but not least are Samsung’s big guns. The company announced the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Fold4, two flagship powerhouse phones that will make flip and fold phones mainstream, and readily available in Malaysia right now.
Let’s start with the Flip4; it’s a premium smartphone that you can close like an old clamshell phone, but way more sleek and futuristic. The phone’s main feature is the FlexCam, where you can take photos with the device whether it’s fully opened, partially opened, or closed. The phone’s Quick Shot and Flex modes can also make taking photos easier regardless of which form the Flip4 adopts. The upgraded camera here is also a boon if you’re more into taking stylish photos on the go but want to make your device as compact as possible.
The phone itself isn’t a slouch in the power department, as it’s using the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile platform, an expanded 3,700mAh battery, and super fast charging tech to charge up the phone from 0 to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. It’s also got a lot of features for mainstream users who want a be-all-end-all phone but in a rather compact size.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 is the star of the show, packed with features and being the largest among all the devices during the private media showcase. It’s a good size and feels hefty, but not too much. Given that it’s a multi-tasking powerhouse, that’s expected.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 comes with Android 12L, a special version of the OS that’s meant for large-screen experiences. The Fold4 comes with a Taskbar option that makes the phone’s layout similar to a PC, so you can use your apps while the phone’s on the table like a mini-laptop or tablet, but one you can fold and put in your pocket. Swipe gestures, full-screen app switches, and screen-split make multitasking fast and easy. The Flex Mode Touchpad also offers accuracy when doing tasks on the big screen like easily rewinding or playing videos, as well as zooming in and out of content.
The camera options for the phone also come with a Dual Preview mode and Rear Cam Selfie to help you properly take photos and be flexible with your captures. The pics and videos you take will definitely come out great since this model comes with an upgraded 50MP wide lens and 30x Space Zoom lense. The 7.6-inch main screen with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and less visible Under Display Camera also makes your captures and overall display all the more fanciful and bright. With all this power, it’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Z Fold4 is perfect for gaming on the go with max settings (though we’ll get back to you on that).
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 price tag starts from RM4,099 (128GB) and peaks at RM4,599 with the Z Flip4 Bespoke Edition (256GB). The Galaxy Fold4 costs as much as a high-end laptop with its minimum RM6,799 cost and max RM8,299 cost with 1TB of memory. Both phones are out right now.
