AESF Teams Up With World Cyber Games For The Future Of Grassroots Esports & Asian Games
The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and World Cyber Games (WCG) will be teaming up.
Both esports organizations, which are highly prominent and well-known in the region’s esports scene, have formed a Memorandum of Understanding to partner up for the advancement, promotion, development, and protection of grassroots esports. AESF and WCG will collaborate to ensure that Esports is accessible and widespread for everyone, with the aim of creating a positive impact on esports’ popularity and well-balanced platforms from the grassroots to the highest tier, which is the professional esports scene.
Through a highly accessible platform like WCG, Esports fans can expect to be more connected than ever before to their favourite professional gaming athletes or teams. Most importantly, the next major medal-level esports tournament will be held at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023 via this partnership. Previously, the Asian Games in Hangzhou was supposed to happen earlier this year before COVID 19-related complications postponed the event.
Says AESF President Kenneth Fok and AESF Director General Sebastian Lau:
“We are delighted to be working with WCG and excited by the opportunity this partnership presents for the entire Esports Movement. WCG’s initiatives to advance the grassroots of Esports align with the AESF’s vision to facilitate and nurture the development of world-class athletes at an international level.
This is a partnership with purpose that leverages on WCG’s significant experience in organizing tournaments to realize the AESF’s goal of developing grassroots and education initiatives in Esports, as well as expanding our reach throughout and beyond Asia.”
CEO Of Bigpicture Interactive and WCG organizer KwangJun Song said that the WCG and AESF partnership makes sense in raising the quality of global gamers and competitive gaming on a grassroots level.
“WCG has been a positive influence in the global Esports industry for 20 years. AESF has also contributed to building a high-quality esports infrastructure and has provided various experiences to gamers. Therefore, WCG plans to expand the grassroots esports experience to global gamers through MOU with AESF, and will continue various activities to raise the quality of lives of global gamers.”
The WCG is one of the well-known and biggest international esports competitions on a worldwide scale; this is quite a big deal for esports teams and followers within the Asian scene.
