#28. Horizon Forbidden West (PS5, PS4)

Guerilla Games’ Horizon franchise is fast becoming one of the PlayStation’s biggest flagship first-party titles. Even against the likes of Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West managed to impress with some of the best graphics yet on the PS5, as well as a bunch of gameplay improvements over the first game, 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn.

This game joins the likes of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Returnal in being the best reason to get a PS5 right now, showcasing the next-gen console’s sheer power and potential. Horizon Forbidden West ultimately doesn’t really do much to revolutionize or innovate the open-world genre. But that’s OK, because what it delivers -open-world action and robot animal/dinosaur fighting and trapping- is given in spades and aces.

The franchise deserves that, and it deserves to be recognised more. It has the potential to be as popular as God Of War, especially as PlayStation is gearing up for more games in the franchise (like the upcoming VR game Horizon Call Of The Mountain), DLC expansions and even a live-action TV series in the making, which will make the IP even more valuable in the future.
