Malaysia’s Astro Has Shut Down Esports Channel eGG Network HD
So much for an esports Malaysian channel sticking around for long.
After 7 years, Astro has announced that pulled the plug of its esports broadcasting network eGG Network HD on channel 800 (via Amanz). No official reason for the cancellation has been given at this point in time.
However, Astro has assured that its future esports broadcasting will be shown on Astro Arena (CH801) and Astro Arena 2 (CH802).
We can probably take a guess: the majority of esports being broadcasted are usually on YouTube or Twitch in high-res format and handled by the companies who created the game (Riot for Valorant & League of Legends, Valve for Dota 2, and so forth). Unless you’re already subscribed to Astro, no one will solely go out of their way to subscribe specifically for an esports channel when they can tune in for free on PC or on their phones.
Some channels do create their own esports-related content to engage viewers and make themselves relevant. However, can you name us one popular and long-running original show that eGG Network has created and maintained within its 7 years of being on air on cable?
