Dead Island 2 Guide & Tips: Becoming A Zombie Slayer

Dead Island 2 is coming out for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 21 April after almost a decade in development hell. The game brings back the gameplay from the original Dead Island with some tweaks and everything. You can check out our full review of Dead Island 2 by heading over here.

Here are some tips and tricks for you to become a zombie slayer in Dead Island 2:

Always Scrap Or Sell Low Rarity Weapons, Not Worth Keeping

The weapons in Dead Island 2 have several rarity levels. From Improvised, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Superior, and Legendary.

You’ll unlock higher rarities as you progress through the game. However, once you unlock a higher tier of weapons, it’s always best to scrap or sell all of your lower-tier weapons. They get obsolete pretty fast and are not worth keeping.

It’s Not Always Worth It To Upgrade Existing Weapons To Your Current Level Because It’s Usually Too Expensive

It’s very expensive to upgrade your weapons to your current level, and for the majority of the weapon, it’s not worth doing so, especially considering how valuable cash is. The only times you should consider doing so is when you finally unlock Superior or Legendary tier weapons because they’re the best weapons in the game.

The game constantly gives you better weapons, so it’s best not to waste money on upgrades because…

You’ll Need The Extra Money To Repair Weapons And Buy Blueprints From Traders

Your weapons will break a lot, especially your favourites, so you’ll be spending a lot of money repairing them. However, the arguably best use for money is that you’ll also need them to buy blueprints from traders. Purchasing more blueprints means more variety of mods for you to choose from and for you to upgrade your weapons with.

Don’t Worry About Choosing A Character Who Blocks or Dodges. Once You Reach A Certain Level, Your Character Unlocks Both And You Can Switch Between Them

At the start of the game, you can choose between several different characters. It seems like some characters only block and others only dodge.

If you’re worried about locking a playstyle, don’t. You will unlock the option to perform the other ability once you progress into the game. You can switch between them later on, so feel free to choose whichever character you like the most.

There Is Fast Travel In The Game But It Only Unlocks Once You Reach Venice Beach For The First Time

Many players might complain that they’re forced to backtrack in the first few hours of the game, but don’t worry, because Dead Island 2 does feature a fast travel mechanic.

However, it only unlocks when you reach Venice Beach for the first time. It took me more than 8 hours of playtime before I did that, so it will probably take most players around the same time.

Always Check The Fast Travel Menu To See If Any Areas Still Have Available Side Quests

It’s not always easy to find side quests and other stuff in the open areas in Dead Island 2. However, once you unlock the fast travel mechanic, you can open up the fast travel menu and see available side quests. You can also check exactly how many side quests and other quests are still left in each area.

You Need To Buy The Blueprints For Ammo From Traders Before You Can Craft More Ammo Types

I don’t think the game tells you this but you have to buy ammo blueprints from several traders before you can craft ammo. So, yeah, you can actually craft all the ammo types in Dead Island 2, including the rare Heavy Ammo.
