Atlus Shares More About Metaphor: ReFantazio In Developer Interview Video

Atlus has released a new video showcasing the thought process and developer insights about its upcoming JRPG.

The new JRPG title Metaphor: ReFantazio plans to mix both fantasy and contemporary art styles and aesthetics, as you can tell from the recent trailer that came out. The Atlus-made developer interview featured insights from director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro.

Katsura Hashino aimed for a fantasy RPG, but wanted to work in contemporary elements to make it different from other fantasy RPGs in the market. Shigenori Soejima said that he loves fantasy elements but doesn’t want to be beholden to existing design conventions, thus the team having to reimagine the fantasy genre from the ground up.

Also, the main character is called the Seeker and is meant to be androgynous to represent both genders of gaming. He is accompanied by a female fairy named Gallica. Shoji Meguro will be putting in “music used in religion”; a spiritual music style that evokes a classical fantasy feel.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is coming out in 2024 for Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
