Courtesy of Netflix Malaysia, we received the opportunity to join a virtual press conference for the upcoming Extraction 2. The press conference featured star Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave.

During the press conference, when asked which action sequences they were most excited for viewers to see, Chris Hemsworth said:

“The oner (one-shot) is pretty special. I feel like I answered that the same way in the first film because that was probably what we were most proud of. This is even bigger and larger and more exciting and there were more variables, a larger component of risk as well.

You know, I was on top of the train, the train was moving at what speed?”

Sam Hargraves added:

“40 to 50 miles per hour, it was moving. An actual train on location.”

Chris Hemsworth continued:

“It was snowing. We were in the Czech Republic and there was a helicopter about 20 feet in front of me flying backwards. Just another normal Tuesday, it’s scenes like that, there’s a scene in the prison yard, which I think was in the first teaser trailer where we had 300 extras.

Myself and a few other people were lit on fire. It was terrifying, but I think we all knew the elevated risk was going to give us an elevated performance, an elevated effect for the audience. Yeah, that sequence was something I’m most proud of.”

Sam Hargrave added:

“And (it makes for) a great poster!”

In Extraction 2, Chris Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first film, with Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili also co-starring.

This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González. Extraction 2 is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall and Sam Hargrave, with Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as executive producers.

Extraction 2 premieres on Netflix on 16 June 2023.
