High on Life DLC Announced

The CEO and studio director of Squanch Games, Mike Fridley, has announced the first DLC for the popular game “High on Life.” The DLC will be called “High on Knife” and takes a horror-themed approach, set two years after the original game’s ending. The expansion introduces Knifey, a weapon voiced by Michael Cusack, and the trailer showcases new characters, enemies, and environments with a noticeably darker and grotesque atmosphere.

“[We’re] getting a little spooky this time around. Not like, “I may never sleep again,” levels of terror, but definitely on the “My dreams are going to be broken for a while,” end of things. Think body horror, but you start off with a horrible body and it gets even more horrible.” – Mike Fridley, Squanch Games CEO and Studio Director

Squanch Games had to confront a distressing situation involving accusations of domestic violence and false imprisonment against Justin Roiland, the co-founder of Squanch Games, creator of Rick and Morty, and voice talent in “High on Life.” Roiland was arrested in August 2020 and pleaded not guilty in October 2020. However, the lawsuit was eventually dropped in March of this year due to insufficient evidence, as confirmed by the Orange County district attorney’s office.

While Roiland expressed his relief and gratitude for the dismissal, he also expressed being deeply affected by the false allegations that were circulated during the process. Unfortunately, the allegations took a toll on his career as Adult Swim removed him from Rick and Morty, and he subsequently resigned from Squanch Games.

It is important to mention all this background information because in “High on Knife,” the DLC for the game, Roiland will not be reprising his role. The expansion features new voice talents for the weapons, such as Sarah Sherman (known for SNL and Sarah Squirm) voicing a gun named Harper. Additionally, a peculiar pinball gun called “B.A.L.L.” is operated by a group of small gibberish-speaking individuals, with their voices provided by Alec Robbins, the narrative director of “High on Life,” who won a fan contest rigged in his favor.

High on Knife will be available this Fall.
