Kevin Feige Reveals How Marvel’s Secret Invasion Started As A Project

Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar, we were lucky enough to be able to join a virtual press conference for the upcoming Secret Invasion TV series. Pretty much almost every major cast member participated in the press conference, including Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), executive producer Jonathan Schwartz and even Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige himself.

During the press conference, Kevin Feige talked about how Secret Invasion originally started to come about as a project and he event teased how the show will have ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) moving forward.

He said:

“It really was Jonathan (Schwartz) who came into my office a number of years ago and said, when we were thinking about what kind of shows to do on Disney+, and he came in with this idea of translating the great Secret Invasion storyline from the comics in a darker, grittier spy show, which we hadn’t done.

We love to do different genres for everything and this was an attempt to really dive back into things we touched upon in The Winter Soldier, Captain America 2, but hadn’t in a while. And really delving into the tone of a spy show, and seeing a very different dynamic between Fury and Talos that we had seen in our sort of 90s buddy action movie, Captain Marvel.”

Later in the press conference, he added:

“The repercussions (of Secret Invasion) will be felt in coming projects.

I just wanted to say one more thing, Ali (Selim) directed every single episode of this show, and really kept the whole show going. And that tone you’re talking about that we dreamed of, he delivered. Sometimes there are TV shows with multiple directors, but he did it all.”

In the meantime, check out my spoiler-free review of Marvel’s Secret Invasion by heading over here.

Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on 21 June 2023, with new episodes every Wednesday.
