Sony Pictures Malaysia Sets Guinness World Record For Largest Spider-Man Gathering
On Saturday 3 June 2023, many people gathered at AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi to witness the history-making moment where Malaysia breaks the Guinness World Records title of the largest gathering of people in Spider-Man costumes. The previous record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Spider-Man is 601 and was achieved by Sony Pictures Entertainment (India) on 15 December 2021.
The event was organized by Sony Pictures Malaysia and AEON Mall in celebration of the release of Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse which was released on 1 June 2023.

The attempt started at 4 pm at the Centre Court of AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi where people dressed as Spider-Man gathered in the designated attempt area. The Official Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Mr Kazuyoshi then announced the start of the attempt, and all people dressed as Spider-Man were required to remain in the attempt area for at least 5mins.
At 4.40 pm, the Official Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Mr Kazuyoshi then announced that Malaysia has successfully broken the record of the Guinness World Records title of the largest gathering of people in Spider-Man costumes with a total of 685 Spider-People. The event ends with a certificate presentation ceremony from Guinness World Records to the Managing Director of Sony Pictures Malaysia, Mr Simon Foo and Chief Property Officer of AEON, Mr Lee Beng Beng.
With a high 96% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse has received great reviews worldwide since its worldwide opening on 1 June 2023. The film is currently the biggest animation opening day post-pandemic.
