Games Industry Legend Hideki Kamiya Leaves PlatinumGames

In a surprise announcement on X (Twitter), the official PlatinumGames account announced that Hideki Kamiya is officially leaving the Japanese developer in October 2023 after almost two decades with the company.

Hideki Kamiya himself has also posted on his own personal Twitter account on the matter.
He said:
As announced on the official PlatinumGames X account,
I will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023.
This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs.
and was by no means an easy decision to make.However, I feel this outcome is for the best.
I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way.
I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.

Hideki Kamiya originally began his career in 1994 with Capcom as the director of the iconic 1998’s Resident Evil 2. He later directed other iconic games such as 2001’s Devil May Cry, 2003’s Viewtiful Joe and 2006’s Okami. He then left Capcom and co-founded PlatinumGames in 2006. At PlatinumGames, he was best known for directing games such as the Bayonetta franchise.

At the time of writing, Hideki Kamiya has yet to officially announce what’s next for him following his departure from PlatinumGames.
