Mortal Kombat 1 Will Feature A Johnny Cage Skin Using The Muscles From Brussels
NetherRealms Studio has shown off footage of its Jean-Claude Van Damme skin in the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Johnny Cage will feature an alternative skin that’s basically the video game version of Jean-Claude Van Damme if he was in his prime during the 90s.
You can check it out in action on the recent entry of First We Feast video series Hot Ones (eat spicy chicken, answer questions while your tongue is burning) featuring MK creator Ed Boon, at the 5:52 mark.
Fun fact: Johnny Cage in the OG Mortal Kombat was the character they created since original publishers Midway couldn’t get the Belgian martial artist actor to be in the game for the mocap/digitization work. And originally before the idea of MK came about, Ed Boon wanted to make a Jean-Claude Van Damme arcade video game; at the time, Blood Sport and Universal Soldier were big.
“So we tried a number of times, going back and forth with him. This time, we hit the lottery, and we got him. We actually have his voice and he’s going to be the Johnny Cage character, and it’s the absolute full-circle moment that we had.”
So this comes full circle for MK fans out there since the first game. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see Fatalities being performed onto JCVD. Mortal Kombat 1 will be out on 19 September for PC, Xbox Series, and PS5. Early access for the game starts 14 September.
