Precision and Passion: A Journey with the Yamaha Technic MT-10 SP

With all the hype of the new Gran Turismo movie, all the car and bike lovers are hyped. If you don’t know, LEGO has a ton of different models you can build of cars, motorbikes, trucks and well, even cranes.

It’s been a very long time since I played with LEGOs, which is why I volunteered to review the LEGO Technic rendition, the Yamaha MT-10 SP. If you’re a LEGO enthusiast, then you know I messed up BIG TIME. This model is definitely not for amateurs like me. Courtesy of The LEGO Company Malaysia, we were provided with a model which arrived early on a Friday morning. First of all, I did not expect the bag to be as big as it was.

This LEGO Technic rendition, the Yamaha MT-10 SP (42159), honors the ‘hyper naked’ class’s most potent Yamaha motorcycle, showcasing the essence of the torque-rich 4-cylinder engine through its minimalist design. Each aspect has been carefully thought out to ensure this model closely mirrors the real-life Yamaha counterpart which is pretty cool honestly. It features a 4-cylinder engine, 3-speed transmission, and a functional chain-driven rear wheel with responsive front and rear suspension. The gearbox components, like the shift drum, shift fork, gear shift ring, and ratchet drum, have been faithfully recreated. Additionally, the model enables practical handlebar steering, comes with a deployable side stand, and rests on the display stand.

At RM999, you can purchase it online at the official website here.

This set in particular came in 6 bags. And when I mean 6 bags, I don’t mean just 6 bags. If you are new to building LEGO sets like these, they give you step-by-step instructions (thank God!) and they label bags according to how you should start and build the model. Each bag contained another 2 or 3 bags inside of them as well. The instruction booklet was over 300 pages. 300 PAGES. Luckily I had my aunt help me out because I would definitely have not been able to do this on my own.

The set has exactly 1478 pieces. Yes, that’s right. Over a thousand. I was a bit intimidated looking at all the bags of LEGO I had to piece together, but then I was up to the challenge to complete it. At first, I thought, I’ll do this in one sitting, but after the first bag… I knew that it just wasn’t possible. It took about 12 hours to finish the entire model.

Believe it or not, this took me 3 and a half hours to put together. And then again, I am a baby at building these LEGOs. It looks like it isn’t much but honestly there were quite a fair bit of LEGOs that went into this first piece.

The second set took about an hour to piece together, and the third took almost 2 hours. I did these 2 sets the following day and honestly they were much easier and less stressful than the first. I also had my little puppy keep me company. Seeing all the little pieces got her excited!

The last 3 bags took a total of 5 hours. These bags were much simpler to piece together as well.

This is how the model looks like all pieced together.

My favourite part about building this model was definitely putting the chains together. Believe it or not, there are 64 pieces of LEGOs put together here.

The set is currently available across LEGO Certified Stores, LEGO Official Store on Lazada, Shopee, and LEGOLAND, as well as major retailers and department stores in Malaysia!
