XDefiant Has Been Delayed After Failing Console Certification Tests

Ubisoft’s plans for XDefiant have hit a bit of a snag. You might remember they were shooting for a summer release, but now it looks like we’ll have to wait until October to get our hands on it. Why the delay, you ask? Well, it’s not because the game is plagued with gameplay problems. Nope, it’s those pesky compliance bugs that are causing the hold-up.

So, what are compliance bugs, you wonder? They’re the little glitches that mess with the systems and overall experience that the big players like Microsoft and Sony expect from games on their consoles. Think of stuff like trophies not tracking properly or your friend’s list not updating correctly with your game status. Yeah, those kinds of annoyances.

Mark Rubin, the executive producer, spilt the beans in an update published recently. He revealed that the team over at Ubisoft San Francisco is hustling to fix these bugs and get the game ready for certification. There’s a chance they might get a conditional pass, which means they’ll have to roll out a Day 1 patch with some final tweaks to make sure everything is up to snuff. If that happens, we’re looking at an early to mid-October release.

Just to jog your memory, XDefiant was first unveiled back in July 2021 as Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, featuring factions from Clancy classics like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division. But in March 2022, Ubisoft decided to ditch the Tom Clancy branding and threw in some extra factions from their extensive catalogue, including Far Cry. So, while the wait is a bummer, at least we know they’re putting in the work to make it a smooth ride when it finally drops. Hang in there, gamers!
