Nintendo Unveils First Look At Hogwarts Legacy Ported On Switch

Nintendo has recently provided a sneak peek of the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, a Harry Potter spin-off game that has experienced significant delays in releasing on the platform. The game is set to be released in a matter of weeks.

Nintendo’s website recently unveiled six screenshots showcasing various scenes from the open-world action RPG, all of which were captured on the Switch hardware. These images offer a glimpse into familiar locations within the magical world of Hogwarts, such as the classrooms where magic lessons take place and the serene seating areas by the Black Lake. Additionally, the screenshots provide a sneak peek at some of the game’s antagonists and monstrous creatures.

In the first quarter earnings call held by Warner Bros. Discovery in May, JB Perrette, the CEO overseeing global streaming and games, expressed optimism regarding the launch of Hogwarts Legacy on the Nintendo Switch. He said;

“We see that as probably a much bigger install base and a fan base that, as relates to the franchise of Harry Potter, which obviously appeals to a very big audience globally, and in markets like Japan where Nintendo has a big footprint and Harry Potter skews very strongly in terms of popularity, we see a much bigger upside probably from that release, certainly than the Gen 8 [release].”

The Switch version of the game was originally scheduled to be released in July 2023, but it was later postponed to November. Unlike the more powerful console versions, the Switch version did not launch at the same time. The developer, Portkey Games, has not provided much information about the performance of this version. However, they released a sneak peek of the game a few weeks before its launch. Although the game has received much praise on other platforms.

Hogwarts Legacy quickly emerged as the top-selling game in February and maintained its position as the best-selling game of 2023 up to that point. By May, it had already sold an impressive 15 million copies, generating an astounding $1 billion in revenue for Warner Bros. Discovery. However, the game’s triumph has been overshadowed by controversy stemming from its association with J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter series, who has expressed controversial views regarding LGBTQ issues.

Hogwarts Legacy for Switch is set to launch on 14 November 2023. In the meantime, read our Hogwarts Legacy review or find out why the game caused quite a stir in the LGBTQ community.
