Zack Snyder Unveils Rebel Moon: A Journey Into Epic Space Opera & Anime Influence

During the last night of Netflix’s Geeked Week, director Zack Snyder, known for films like 300 and Watchmen, shared insights on his upcoming space opera, Rebel Moon along with the official trailer.

The movie, positioned as the beginning of a potential franchise to rival Star Wars, has garnered significant attention from both Snyder and Netflix, with considerable investment in time, money, and promotion. Audience response has been notably positive, with the teaser trailer alone amassing 12 million views on YouTube, and the latest trailer reaching 500 thousand views in just three hours.

When asked about what he’s most excited for viewers to experience when the film releases on Netflix on 22 December, Snyder expressed his anticipation for audiences to delve into new mythology and immerse themselves in the universe he and his team meticulously crafted. He emphasized that the details are intentional, not arbitrary, and he hopes fans will find the journey engaging.

Eager to share the project he’s been planning for over 30 years, Snyder discussed the trailer in detail, providing behind-the-scenes insights and offering additional information about the lore surrounding the characters. Clearly passionate about his creation, he enthusiastically invited audiences to join the characters on their journey through the world of Rebel Moon.

When asked about his favourite anime, Snyder mentioned Akira as a fundamental choice for any filmmaker. He also shared his current interest in Demon Slayer and reflected on the reciprocal influence between his work, Western media, and anime over the past two decades. Snyder sees this exchange as a dynamic process, likening it to a tennis game where influences bounce back and forth, describing it as a fun and nonlinear cultural phenomenon.

In a lighter moment, Snyder mentioned his love for a good turkey sandwich, adding a touch of humour to the discussion. The final trailer for Rebel Moon can be watched by those interested in getting a glimpse of Snyder’s epic space opera.
