Eli Roth Is Carving Up Thanksgiving 2 For Release In 2025
By Alleef Ashaari|December 1, 2023|0 Comment
Barely one week after Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving horror slasher movie premiered in cinemas in the US (and on 30 November 2023 in Malaysia), Sony Pictures has already given the greenlight for a sequel.
According to the announcement on Instagram, Eli Roth will take “one year off” to write the script for Thanksgiving 2 alongside screenwriter Jeff Rendell.
Eli Roth said:
“We’re gonna take a year off so we can really, really write a great script. We want to outdo ourselves. Make it better than the first one.”
Thanksgiving 2 will premiere sometime around Thanksgiving in 2025.
The synopsis for Thanksgiving reads:
After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Will the town uncover the killer and survive the holidays…or become guests at his twisted holiday dinner table?
Thanksgiving is based on Roth’s mock trailer of Thanksgiving from 2007’s Grindhouse.
The movie has earned rave reviews from critics and audiences, as well as collected US$30 million worldwide, which is impressive for a brand new horror slasher movie with no famous brand IP to its name (unlike say, Scream or Friday The 13th).
