Rekkles Joins T1’s Academy League of Legends Team Going Into 2024

Swedish League of Legends player Martin “Rekkles” Larsson has joined the reigning World Champions in esports organisation T1.

He will be taking on the role of support in T1’s Esports Academy for the LCK Challengers League (LCK CL). Teaming up with rookie player Sin “Smash” Geum-jae and is set to make his debut as a support player in the Korean league during the LCK CL Spring 2024 season.

Rekkles shared his journey from Europe to South Korea in an announcement video released by T1. In the video, he explored the T1 Headquarters in Seoul and introduced himself to those who may be unfamiliar with him in the region.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Rekkles expressed his awareness of the new language, culture, teammates, and the additional responsibility of a new role. Despite the initial overwhelming nature of these changes, he committed to the learning process, stating his aim to become “like any other team member” within a year or half a year.

In the previous season, Rekkles faced challenges with Fnatic, securing 9th place in Winter, 6th in Spring, and an 8th-place finish in Summer after transitioning to the support role. He originally gained recognition as a skilled bot laner before making the switch to support.

Throughout his career, Rekkles has participated in multiple European League of Legends Championship Series (EU LCS) and League of Legends European Championship (LEC) splits. Despite winning several LEC championships, he has yet to achieve his ultimate goal of winning the Worlds. The closest opportunity came in 2018 when Fnatic reached the Worlds finals against Invictus Gaming in Seoul.
