Possible Official Xbox Malaysia Launch Teased With SIRIM Approval

Xbox fans have always played second fiddle to PlayStation fans in Malaysia due to the lack of official regional support for the platform. However, there are signs that that may change soon. Our friends at SoyaCincau have discovered that the Xbox Series X was registered in the SIRIM (Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) database in December 2023 and that the Xbox Series S was already registered all the way back in 2020.

Of course, being registered in the SIRIM database doesn’t necessarily mean that an official launch is happening, but there’s no reason why that can’t happen in the future. This is especially so considering that the Xbox Game Pass is already officially available on PC in Malaysia and the Xbox controllers have also been officially available here since last year.

The Xbox PC Game Pass gives players access to a massive library of both old and new games for just RM15 per month. In the meantime, check out our review of the Xbox PC Game Pass here.

For now, nothing is officially confirmed but an official Xbox launch will only benefit the brand since there are already many fans of the platform here in Malaysia who have been clamouring for official regional support for decades. That being said, it hasn’t been good news for Xbox recently, with the major brand laying off a whopping 1900 employees just yesterday, so it’s not really a good time for the company to expand further right now considering the circumstances.
