Dune Part Two is conquering the world, garnering a whopping US$178.5 million in its opening weekend box office, which is the biggest one yet in 2024 so far.

In comparison, that’s already almost half of the total box office of the first movie, 2021’s Dune (US$433.7 million).

As reported by Deadline, Dune Part Two is also the largest opening for director Denis Villeneuve of any of his previous movies to date.

Dune Part Two stars Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson joined by fellow returning Dune Part One cast members Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Stephen McKinley Henderson, as well as new additions Austin Butler, Tim Blake Nelson, Florence Pugh, Souheila Yacoub, and Léa Seydoux.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune Part Two explores “the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Dune Part Two is now showing in Malaysian cinemas.
