Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Conquers With Ape-Tastic US$129 Million Opening Weekend Box Office
By Alleef Ashaari|May 12, 2024|0 Comment
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is conquering the world, garnering a whopping US$129 million in its opening weekend box office (via Disney).
However, that’s not close to the biggest ones in 2024, as that goes to Godzilla X Kong The New Empire with its US$194 million opening weekend and Dune Part Two with US$178.5 million in its opening box weekend.
That being said, this is the second biggest domestic US opening in the current Apes series and the biggest opening of director Wes Ball’s career.
Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic, franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
Nearly 300 years after the events of 2017’s War For The Planet of the Apes, ape civilizations have emerged from the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral, primitive state. When the ape king Proximus Caesar, armed with weapons forged from lost human technologies, perverts Caesar’s teachings to enslave other clans, the chimpanzee hunter Noa embarks on a harrowing journey alongside a human girl named Mae (who is played by Freya Allan. She is best known for playing Ciri in Netflix’s The Witcher series.) to determine the future for apes and humans alike.
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes stars Owen Teague (“IT”), Freya Allan (“The Witcher”), Kevin Durand (Locke & Key”), Peter Macon (“Shameless”), and William H. Macy (“Fargo”). The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”) and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and Patrick Aison (“Prey”), based on characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and the producers are Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick, Jr. (“The Maze Runner”), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Jason Reed (“Mulan”), with Peter Chernin (the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy) and Jenno Topping (“Ford v. Ferrari”) serving as executive producers.
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is now showing in Malaysian cinemas.
