Legendary veteran actor Louis Gossett Jr. has passed away at the age of 87.

He was best known for being the first Black actor to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 1982’s An Officer And A Gentleman. In 1977, he also won an Emmy for his performance in the TV miniseries Roots. He also starred in movies such as 1986’s Iron Eagle, 1989’s The Punisher and most recently, 2023’s The Color Purple. He also played the role of an older Will Reeves AKA the Hooded Justice in HBO’s Watchmen series back in 2019.

In the games industry, he did voice work in Valve’s Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode One. In both games, Gossett voiced the vortigaunts, the friendly aliens who were formerly subjugated by Half-Life’s antagonists, The Combine. However, in Half-Life 2 Episode Two and Half-Life Alyx, Tony Todd replaced him.
