Netflix’s City Hunter Movie Adaptation Premieres Later This Month

Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming City Hunter adaptation

Premiering on 25 April, the film follows a top-level “sweeper” who cleans up trouble in the gritty underworld with his impressive athletic abilities, elite marksmanship and cool composure — with his one weakness being his inability to resist the charm of beautiful women. This man is the one and only Ryo Saeba, known as the “City Hunter.”

Stepping into the shoes of the iconic Ryo Saeba is Ryohei Suzuki, a huge fan of the original manga who approached the role with passion and a sense of responsibility. Misato Morita takes on the role of heroine Kaori Makimura, the younger sister of Hideyuki Makimura. Masanobu Ando plays Ryo’s partner Hideyuki Makimura, while Fumino Kimura portrays Saeko Nogami, a beautiful detective who has a long history with Ryo.

The main trailer treats fans to a glimpse of the budding bond between Ryo and Kaori, while also delving deeper into the film’s storyline.

After receiving a cryptic message, Ryo and Hideyuki set out to search for Kurumi, a famous cosplayer. But when tragedy strikes and Hideyuki is killed during the investigation, his sister, Kaori, demands answers about her brother’s untimely demise. Meanwhile, it is revealed that the mysterious drug “Angel Dust” is at the heart of the violent incidents plaguing Shinjuku and that Kurumi is key in uncovering the truth behind the drug. Ryo and Kaori embark on a quest to unravel the truth shrouding Hideyuki’s death.

Tsukasa Hojo, the original author of the manga, got an early peek at the film and was quick to share praise.

He said:

“I really enjoyed the film and I was impressed by how well it was done. This film shows the characters running around in Shinjuku and I think this is what the fans expect, which will give the thrills of watching it as real. I encourage all fans of the original manga and anime to experience it for themselves. Even a quick peek before bed will leave you too captivated to sleep. I hope everyone enjoys it.”

City Hunter premieres on Netflix on 25 April 2024.
