Furiosa A Mad Max Saga Engine Stalls & Sputters To A Mediocre Opening Weekend
In its first box office opening weekend (via Deadline), Furiosa A Mad Max Saga has garnered a grand total of…
US58.9 million.
Let’s compare that to other previous big blockbuster opening weekends in 2024 so far:
- Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes: US$129 million
- Godzilla X Kong The New Empire: US$194
- Dune Part Two: US$178.5 million
We gave it a glowing review (check out our full review of Furiosa A Mad Max Saga). Furiosa even has 89% critics and 91% audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
What went wrong? Perhaps the general audience didn’t want to watch a Mad Max movie without the titular Mad Max in it. Or perhaps Anya Taylor-Joy is not enough to attract general audiences. Despite her apparent popularity online, Furiosa A Mad Max Saga is the first big-budget summer blockbuster movie in which she plays the lead protagonist. In previous movies, she has often just played supporting/secondary characters and whenever she was the lead, it was always in smaller movies.
Furiosa A Mad Max Saga is now showing in Malaysian cinemas.
