Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Grandstands Onto Switch This July

Feeling competitive with 8-bit games but don’t want to bust out the old NES, since it’s more than 40 years since you’ve had one? Well, Nintendo has the next best thing coming out in a few months.

Nintendo has announced Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition for the Nintendo Switch. The game is basically a collection of NES 8-bit games (13 of them) tailored for over 150 speedrun challenges & high score competitions. Get competitive with a group of friends and obtain the best scores from the following titles:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Donkey Kong
  • Excitebike
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Metroid
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

The regular version will be out for US$29.99 via the Nintendo eShop, while the physical Deluxe Set edition will be sold for US$59.99.

This Nintendo-branded customized games were a big deal back in the 90s, as you can tell from the Nintendo World Championships telecast in the US back in the day. So you can see that there’s a huge nostalgia value to having a score-based collection of games all in one cartridge, tailor- made for the Switch if you want to compete with others in the same space as you, or even on the go.
