Phantom Brave Sequel Announced; Features More Ghost-Summoning Shenanigans & Pirates

Nippon Ichi’s underrated turn-based strategy RPG Phantom Brave, where you play a girl who summons a ghost army, is getting a sequel after decades.

The original game came out on PlayStation 2 back in 2004, so it’s 20 years since the game’s release. The sequel, Phantom Brave: is coming out for Nintendo Switch next year, 2025.

You play as Marona, the ghost-summoning girl, as she sets sail to rescue her ghost friend Ash. She teams up with a pirate and also learns new ghost skills like Confine, where she merges ghosts with gadgets for powerful attacks and skills. She also has Confriend abilities that turn the tide of turn-based gridless-combat. Yep, I said gridless: the first Phantom Brave introduced the no-grid movement system and it’s in full effect in this 3D sequel.

Set sail to save the day with Marona and her Phantom friends in Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025! Each stage of this colorful RPG adventure offers a gridless tactical turn-based challenge. Utilize the “Confine” system to recruit Phantoms, binding them to objects on the map for unique advantages. Unleash potent attacks with “Confine,” merging Phantoms with cannons and other Gadgets. When all else fails, execute Marona’s special “Confriend” ability for show-stopping abilities that will turn the tide of battle!
