The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Expansion Arrives for PC and Mac

ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks have finally launched the anticipated eighth major expansion for the fantasy MMO Elder Scrolls Online, known as the Gold Road Chapter, for PC and Mac. The Xbox and PlayStation versions will launch on 18 June 2024.

This latest instalment introduces players to a brand new zone called West Weald, presenting over 30 hours of main quest gameplay. For the first time, players can delve into the intriguing Scribing system and engage with a compelling narrative that unfolds a previously unseen Daedric Prince.

The biggest game changer in the Gold Road Chapter is the Scribing feature, which transforms the gameplay experience by enabling players to craft their own spells, reminiscent of the spellcrafting opportunities in past Elder Scrolls titles. Through patience and navigating its extensive introductory segment, players can master this system, which utilizes a Grimoire and various Scripts to tailor the skills’ functions and effects. With 11 Grimoires available and multiple Scripts, the possibilities for customization are vast.

The expansion allows for exploration of the West Weald zone, nestled along the southwestern border of Cyrodiil and adjacent to Valenwood and the Gold Coast. Here, players can discover the rustic city of Skingrad, wander through the Gold Road region, and unravel the mysteries of the emerging Dawnwood.

Adding to the adventure, the Gold Road introduces a new 12-player group trial named Lucent Citadel. Teams venture into an ancient Daedric vault hidden within Fargrave, facing unique bosses and pursuing the elusive Arcane Knot. Alongside the trial, the expansion brings a plethora of Achievements, items, and collectibles to discover, including the novel Skill Styles collectible type.

Coinciding with the release of Gold Road is Update 42,  a free update offering several enhancements to the base game. The update revamps the in-game mail system with improved interface and notification features. It also celebrates Elder Scrolls Online’s 10-year Anniversary with the Adventure Across a Decade Achievement, rewarding players with the “Fractured Glory” skin for completing significant questlines from the game’s history, including those introduced in the latest expansion. For more details, check out the full patch notes.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road is available for purchase through the ESO Store, retailers, or platform stores, inviting players to immerse themselves in this richly expanded universe.
