Horizon Zero Dawn TV Series Allegedly Cancelled Following Showrunner Scandal
The Horizon Zero Dawn TV series was originally announced all the way back in August 2022 but it looks like the project is now cancelled in light of recent events involving the showrunner, Steve Blackman.
Blackman is best known for being the showrunner of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy series, but just last month, he was accused of toxic behaviour and fostering a toxic work environment in his projects. According to Rolling Stone journalist Cheyenne Roundtree (via Twitter), the Horizon Zero Dawn TV series has been cancelled due to that being the main reason.
Scoop: Rolling Stone has learned that two of ‘Umbrella Academy’ showrunner Steve Blackman’s projects that were in development at Netflix, a Horizon Zero Dawn series and an original series, Orbital, are no longer moving forward https://t.co/cFnyww0n3Q

The Horizon Zero Dawn TV series was supposed to be the next major PlayStation Studios live-action adaptation on the way, as well as a God Of War TV series from Prime Video. In recent years, we’ve already received the likes of The Last Of Us TV series by HBO and a Twisted Metal TV series on Peacock.
Meanwhile, the Horizon franchise is healthier than ever, with a PC version of Horizon Forbidden West having arrived in March 2024 and a LEGO Horizon Adventures launching later during the holiday season of 2024.
