Prime Video August 2024: Our Picks & Highlights

I’m sure you won’t want to waste time sifting through Prime Video’s extensive catalogue of shows and movies just to decide on what to watch. The streaming giant updates its site every day, week, and month with new content, so I’m here to save your precious time.

For RM25 per month, customers in Malaysia can sign up for Prime Video and enjoy a great selection of entertainment, from local Originals and local licensed titles to global Amazon Original movies and TV series.

To get started, visit https://www.primevideo.com/, or download the Prime Video app on your mobile device. For more updates, follow Prime Video Malaysia on Facebook, Instagram, TwitterTikTok, and YouTube. Stream anywhere, anytime at primevideo.com or download the Prime Video app on Google PlayApple Store, and Microsoft.

Here are my personal recommendations and highlights for Prime Video Malaysia’s August 2024 lineup and how to fill up your free time with worthwhile content at home:

Batman Caped Crusader (1 August 2024)

Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.

The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Based on DC characters, Batman: Caped Crusader hails from Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register

Induk Gajah Season 2 (1 August 2024)

After nearly two years living with her in-laws, Ira (Marshanda) couldn’t take it anymore and was forced to find a way to leave Marsel (Dimas Anggara)’s parents’ house. Unfortunately, the only way was to promise her in-laws that she was pregnant, which she had been secretly delaying because she didn’t feel ready. Now, Ira and Marsel are struggling to fend off the pressure from their in-laws who are demanding a grandson to carry on the family name, just when they have realised that Ira has fertility challenges.

One Fast Move (8 August 2024)

Wes Neal (KJ Apa), a young man with a passion for speed, is kicked out of the military for motorcycle drag racing. With nowhere left to go, and a desire to go pro in racing, he tracks down his estranged father, Dean Miller (Eric Dane), a former motorcycle racing champion, to be his coach. Wes gets a job at the motorcycle shop owned by Dean’s old mentor, Abel (Edward James Olmos), and meets a local waitress (Maia Reficco) who he falls for. As he begins training with his father, fresh wounds are created on old scars as Dean puts intense pressure on his son to be the best, putting a strain on all other relationships in Wes’ life. Wes must decide for himself now what he wants for his future, and ultimately what is worth losing in order to win big on the track.

Jackpot! (15 August 2024)

Noel (John Cena) and Katie (Awkwafina) in JACKPOT!

In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket. Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.

No Gain No Love (26 August 2024)

When it comes to family, love, or work, Son Hae-yeong, played by Shin Mina, has encountered loss after loss. In order to change her luck, Hae-yeong ends up seeking a fake wedding with her neighbourhood convenience store employee, Kim Ji-uk, played by Kim Young Dae (The Forbidden Marriage, Sh**ting Stars, Moon in the Day) to avoid missing out on a promotion. Kim Ji-uk is known for being a model neighbourhood citizen and works night shifts at a convenience store. A local hero who can not ignore others in need, he agreed to Hae-yeong’s ridiculous proposal to be her fake groom for her fake wedding. Furthermore, the series features second lead actor Lee Sang-yi (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) as third-generation chaebol Bok Gyu-hyun who is the CEO of the company where Hae-yeong works and Han Ji-hyeon (Cheer Up, The Penthouse) who plays Nam Ja-yeon, a popular R-rated web novel writer and Hae-yeong’s family-like friend and roommate.

The Lord Of The Rings The Rings Of Power Season 2 (29 August 2024)

In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.
