Disney Unveils Live-Action Snow White Remake Trailer Slated For March 2025

Disney has officially announced the release date for its much-anticipated Snow White remake, scheduled to hit theatres on 21 March 2025. The announcement was made alongside the debut of the film’s first trailer at the 2024 D23 Expo, generating significant buzz among fans and industry insiders.

Directed by Marc Webb, known for 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man, this live-action adaptation reimagines the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The trailer showcased Rachel Zegler in the iconic role of Snow White, offering a fresh take on the beloved character. Zegler, who previously starred in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake, will also be lending her voice to the film’s musical numbers, which include both classic songs and new compositions by Dear Evan Hansen creators Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Written by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and Erin Cressida Wilson (Secretary), the film aims to update the original story while maintaining its timeless charm. The seven dwarfs—Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy—will return, brought to life through advanced computer animation to stay true to their original designs.

However, the project hasn’t been without controversy. In 2022, actor Peter Dinklage, who has achondroplasia, criticised the film’s depiction of dwarfs on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, questioning Disney’s approach to the story. In response, Disney announced that it was consulting with members of the dwarfism community to avoid reinforcing stereotypes, promising a new interpretation of the characters.

With the release date now confirmed and the trailer generating excitement, Disney is hoping to recapture the magic of the original Snow White for a new generation. Fans will soon find out if Marc Webb’s vision lives up to expectations when the film premieres in 2025.
