Star Wars Outlaws Ending Explained: 5 Biggest Takeaways
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Outlaws will launch for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 30 August, but early access players (those who bought the Ultimate and Gold editions of the game) can already play the game early.
For my spoiler-free review of Star Wars Outlaws, head on over here.
Basically, here are the biggest takeaways from the ending of Star Wars Outlaws:
The Premise And Setting Of Star Wars Outlaws Owes Itself To Marvel’s Star Wars Comics

In Star Wars Outlaws, Kay Vess and the Trailblazer crew are thrust into an ongoing conflict and hostilities brewing between the various crime syndicates in the Star Wars universe.
This has its origins from pretty recent Star Wars comics published by Marvel from 2021 to 2022. The crossover storyline is called Star Wars Crimson Reign, which showcases the rise of Crimson Dawn led by Q’ira and reaching its heights by taking on the other criminal syndicates in a bid to increase their power. Why? Qi’ra’s ultimate goal is to make Crimson Dawn powerful enough to defeat the Empire, though she ultimately fails, which leads to the downfall of Crimson Dawn and leaving Jabba The Hutt’s Hutt Cartel as the most powerful crime syndicate.
Crimson Dawn is still trying to amass power and is still pretty powerful in Star Wars Outlaws, which means that the events of the game must be set during the events of Crimson Reign but before the end of Crimson Reign.
The Zerek Besh Crime Syndicate Is Actually A Front For The Empire, Specifically The ISB

At the end of Star Wars Outlaws, it’s revealed that the Zerek Besh crime syndicate is actually under the Empire, as its leader, Sliro, is actually Director Barsha from the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB). For those who don’t know, the ISB is the secret intelligence branch of the Empire, sort of its CIA or similar to the Nazi’s Gestapo, or the Russian KGB.
Jaylen Is Actually The Brother Of Sliro/Director Barsha And He Wants To Take Over Zerek Besh

Throughout the game, Jaylen is sort of the funder and leader of Kay Vess’ crew. However, the truth is revealed at the end of the game. Jaylen is actually Sliro AKA Director Barsha’s brother and he just wants revenge against his brother, as well as to take over Zerek Besh. He essentially becomes the final antagonist of Star Wars Outlaws.
Kay Vess Gives The Codex To Vail

In Star Wars Outlaws, Vail is one of the bounty hunters employed by Sliro and Zerek Besh to hunt down Kay Vess and the Trailblazer crew. However, Vail redeems herself by helping Kay Vess at the very end and to repay her, Kay Vess gave the codex to Vail.
What is the codex? In Star Wars Outlaws, it’s revealed that the reason why Sliro AKA Director Barsha and Zerek Besh are so powerful is because they have a codex containing information and blackmail on members of the Empire, as well as other sensitive information that could be used against the Empire.
We have no idea what Vail eventually does with the codex, but logically, she probably gave it (or sold it, mostly likely) to the Rebellion.
Maybe we’ll see Mercedes Morris reprise her role as Vail in future Star Wars content.
Kay Vess And ND-5 Continue Their Adventures Together

Star Wars Outlaws ends with Kay Vess and ND-5 the only ones remaining as part of the Trailblazer crew. ND-5 is now a ‘free’ droid and we can now theoretically see more of them both in future Star Wars shows, perhaps even live-action. Jay Rincon could easily reprise his voice role as ND-5 and Humberly González can reprise her role as Kay Vess in live-action.
Perhaps Kay Vess, ND-5 and the Trailblazer could appear in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie? That would be awesome to see.
