Samsung’s Odyssey Cup Returns Later This Month, Open To All
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|September 3, 2024|0 Comment
Samsung’s Dota 2 Odyssey Cup is making a grand return, and this time it’s bigger than ever. This prestigious esports event is set to unite both professional and amateur gamers from Southeast Asia (SEA) and Oceania, offering an electrifying experience for everyone involved. Following the success of last year’s Odyssey Cup Influencer Invitational and the recent Campus League, the 2024 edition aims to bring together an even larger community of gamers, promising an unforgettable event for players and spectators alike.
This year’s tournament is open to all gaming enthusiasts aged 18 and above, offering a new Pro vs. Amateur format that allows rising stars to challenge seasoned professionals. The event will spotlight Dota 2, a beloved game known for its strategic depth, alongside Samsung’s latest gaming monitors, designed to meet the demands of competitive play.
The tournament will feature representatives from six SEA countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—who will compete in dual qualifiers for a spot in the SEA finals. These finalists will then join four invited pro teams to battle for a place in the grand finals. Additionally, two teams from Oceania—Australia and New Zealand—will join the final playoffs, completing the roster of eight teams that will vie for the regional championship and a share of the US$20,000 prize pool.
If you think that your team has what it takes, you can register here, or find out more on the official Odyssey Cup website.
The competition kicks off with online qualifiers later this month from 21 to 25 September, leading into the SEA finals on 28 and 29 September. The grand finale will take place at the Hatten Hotel in Melaka from 10 to 13 October, where the top teams will clash in an epic showdown.
Samsung’s latest gaming monitors, including the 32-inch Odyssey G8 OLED and the 27-inch Odyssey G6 OLED, will be at the heart of the tournament, delivering top-tier performance with features like 240Hz and 360Hz refresh rates and ultra-fast response times. These cutting-edge displays, equipped with dynamic cooling and OLED glare-free technology, are designed to provide an unparalleled gaming experience.
Leslie Goh, Head of Regional Display Solutions at Samsung Southeast Asia & Oceania, highlighted the significance of the event:
“Samsung remains committed to advancing esports through innovation and collaboration. The Odyssey Cup Dota 2 Championship embodies our ongoing dedication to supporting the esports community and shaping the future of competitive gaming.”
With the announcement of the 2024 Odyssey Cup, Samsung is set to bring together once again the region’s top gaming talent, making this event not just a competition but a celebration of esports culture.
As a fan of grassroots esports, I’m thrilled to see Samsung’s Dota 2 Odyssey Cup evolve from an exclusive content creator invitational into an open tournament that welcomes both professionals and amateurs. This shift is a huge win for the gaming community, as it not only broadens participation but also nurtures the growth of up-and-coming talent. The new Pro vs. Amateur format is a game-changer, offering aspiring gamers the chance to compete on the same stage as seasoned pros. It’s exciting to witness an event that truly supports the spirit of esports by empowering players at all levels.
