Halo Composer Discourages People From Buying New Vinyl Soundtrack Release

Martin O’Donnell is best known for composing music for iconic game franchises such as Destiny and most famously, Halo. Earlier today on X/Twitter, he told everyone not to purchase the latest vinyl release of the Halo soundtrack.

Why did he do this?

It’s because he has a tumultuous relationship with Bungie. In April 2014, he was terminated by Bungie without any justifiable cause. This sparked a dispute with management regarding stock options that O’Donnell was rightfully owed. However, the company attempted to cancel these options.

Later in 2015, O’Donnell successfully fought back and filed a lawsuit against Bungie. This ultimately resulted in him reclaiming his options. This outcome proved crucial, as Bungie eventually sold itself to Sony for US$3.6 billion. O’Donnell asserted that he resolved these disputes with the respective companies.

So, you can see why he wouldn’t want anyone to buy any new releases of the Halo soundtrack.

In other related news, in October 2024, 343 Industries revealed that they were working on the next Halo game, which will be powered by Unreal Engine 5.
