Call of Duty Warzone Season 2: Substance Over Style
By Lewis Larcombe|January 22, 2025|0 Comment
Activision has decided that before giving you shiny new toys to play with, it needs to fix the ones already in your sandbox. Season 2 of Call of Duty: Warzone is putting new content on the back burner to deal with the game’s nagging “foundational issues.”
In a detailed blog post that reads like a corporate apology letter mixed with a pep talk, Activision admitted it’s heard the players’ cries loud and clear. Their plan? Prioritise gameplay tuning, improve quality of life, and squash bugs that have been bugging players.
“We’ve made the decision to prioritise focus on gameplay tuning, adding more quality of life, and addressing ongoing bugs” the blog essentially says. As a result, some of the content originally earmarked for this season has been rescheduled to give developers more breathing room to fix the game’s core mechanics.
The updates will roll out in phases, starting with Season 2’s launch on 28 January, and more improvements will trickle in mid-season. Among the promised tweaks are faster weapon reload and swap speeds, quicker parachute cuts, and smoother jumping mechanics – the kind of stuff that could make the game feel less like running through molasses during a hurricane. Oh, and there’s also an adjustment to wall bullet penetration for good measure.
Activision is clear about its goal: building the most solid Battle Royale foundation imaginable. It’s like laying a sturdy base for a house – before adding the flashy rooftop pool.
The post also touched on the behind-the-scenes integration of Black Ops 6 into Warzone’s development ecosystem. While this shift hasn’t been without hiccups, Activision believes it will ultimately pave the way for grander updates and tighter collaboration between its studios. Translation: fewer delays and less tech drama in the future.
As for those craving fresh content, developer Treyarch has some good news. Black Ops 6 Season 2 will bring a brand-new Zombies map called The Tomb, while console players will soon gain the long-requested ability to disable cross-play with PC users in Ranked Play. This change, apparently, is Activision’s way of addressing feedback.
It’s clear Activision is going all-in on the “slow and steady wins the race” strategy this season. Whether this gamble pays off or leaves players bored stiff remains to be seen.
