The Best & Weirdest Werewolves In Games: Wolf Man Werewolf Mania
Werewolf fever is upon us as we’re finally getting the new highly-anticipated Wolf Man by Saw co-creator and 2020’s The Invisible Man director, Leigh Whannell. We also just received another werewolf movie recently in the form of Werewolves by director, Steven C. Miller. Maybe werewolves are making a cinematic comeback and that’s great for horror fans.
However, werewolves have also been in many games over the years. In some, you can play as a werewolf. In others, you kill werewolves. In this list, we’ll be listing some of the more prominent games with werewolves in them, in case you’re left craving for more lycanthropy after watching Wolf Man in cinemas (check out our full review of the movie by heading over here).
Here are the best and weirdest werewolves in gaming:
Werewolf The Apocalypse Earthblood
This is one of the more recent games on this list and it’s also perhaps the most pure experience of living out the fantasy of playing as a werewolf. In Werewolf The Apocalypse Earthblood, you play as Cahal, a human who can turn into both a wolf and a full-on werewolf. The best part of the game is the Devil May Cry-esque action combat when you play as a werewolf and can slice enemies into bloody bits. This is the game for you if you want to play as a werewolf.
The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is another game you can play as a werewolf. However, the caveat is that you’ll have to go through a specific questline to obtain the ability to become a werewolf, but once you do, it’s just so much fun shredding enemies as a powerful werewolf. No troll or dragon scared me when I became a werewolf.
The Quarry
No one expected The Quarry to be a werewolf game when it marketed itself as more of a camp slasher vibe but the werewolves in The Quarry are some of the most terrifying lycans we’ve ever encountered in the game. This game is worth playing for any horror fan, and especially werewolf fans in general for its take on werewolves. It also has one of the creepiest designs for a werewolf, a live-action version would be a terrifying sight.
The Wolf Among Us
We’re getting a bit less traditional as we go down this list. In The Wolf Among Us, the protagonist Bigsby is a werewolf. While this isn’t a horror game, but it’s still a game that’s a beloved classic for a reason, featuring a phenomenal story and complex characters based on fairy tales. If you want more, you should definitely check out the comics (Fables) and there’s a sequel to the game currently in the works.
Werewolves Within
Werewolves Within is a multiplayer VR game for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. You join a multiplayer lobby of five to eight players, and your goal is to either determine who the werewolves are or keep your identity as a werewolf hidden. It’s basically Among Us but with werewolves. There’s also a movie adaptation of this game, so you can watch that as well.
Sonic Unleashed

A werewolf sonic? You read that right.
This Sonic game is infamous for one major mechanic, Sonic can turn into a werewolf-like creature called a werehog. So, yeah, this is technically still a game where you can play as a werewolf.
Now that Sonic has a successful live-action trilogy of movies, who knows? Maybe we’ll get to see a live-action werehog Sonic one day.
The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess
Just like Sonic Unleashed, Link can turn, well, not exactly a werewolf, but an actual wolf in this game. Turning into a wolf is still a werewolf-like ability and so, Wolf Link counts.
So, yeah, this is basically the most Twilight-esque werewolf of all the werewolves on this list. And of course, it had to be a Nintendo game.
