Xbox Games On Switch 2? Phil Spencer Seems Want It
By Lewis Larcombe|January 28, 2025|0 Comment
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer recently dropped some tantalising hints about Xbox’s growing relationship with Nintendo—and potentially the Switch 2—in a chat with GamerTag Radio. Spencer, known for his vision of bringing Xbox gaming to as many screens as possible, might just be hinting at a future where your favourite Xbox titles make themselves comfy on Nintendo’s next console.
Spencer’s philosophy is simple: Xbox shouldn’t be boxed in. “We want people to be able to play Xbox on many different screens,” he declared. Whether it’s through the cloud, on PC, handheld devices, or even smartphones, Spencer envisions a world where gaming isn’t limited by hardware loyalties.
And while he’d prefer gamers to pick Microsoft-made devices (obviously), Spencer’s real focus is on getting Xbox games in front of as many players as possible. “Put the games first,” he said. “Make sure the games can be as great as they can.”
Spencer didn’t hold back in praising Nintendo, calling them a cornerstone of the gaming industry. He revealed he even personally congratulated Nintendo’s CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, on the announcement of the Switch 2. “Who would ever bet against the success of that team?” Spencer mused, applauding Nintendo’s innovation and declaring the Switch a “massive success.”
And here’s the kicker: Spencer is “really looking forward to supporting [Nintendo] with the games that we have [at Xbox].” While he didn’t outright confirm anything, it’s hard not to imagine what that could mean for the future of Xbox games on Nintendo platforms. Rumours are already swirling about Halo: The Master Chief Collection making its way to the Switch 2, alongside other titles.
For Spencer, the future isn’t just about consoles—it’s about connectivity. “More and more, it’s important that my save game travels to whatever screen I want to play on,” he explained. “That my community’s always there. That should be an expectation for all of us.”
Microsoft has already begun exploring this vision, with several of its titles appearing on the current Switch. Meanwhile, it’s developing its own handheld gaming device, though it’s reportedly still years away from launch.
If you’re keen to catch the full 26-minute interview, it’s available on GamerTag Radio’s YouTube channel. For now, the gaming world is left wondering: are we one step closer to seeing Master Chief join Mario and Link on the Switch 2? Don’t rule it out.
