Razer’s Plan To Cut Down Bots

AI in gaming is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it gives us smarter NPCs, mind-blowing graphics, and, let’s be honest, some pretty terrifying cheating software. On the other, it’s flooding multiplayer lobbies with soulless, third-party bots that make you question if there’s a single human left in your ranked match. But fear not, because Razer and World have joined forces to tackle this growing plague with something called ‘Razer ID verified by World ID.’

In plain English? It’s a new single sign-on (SSO) system designed to separate real gamers from AI-driven bots. The idea is simple: If you have a pulse, you can verify. If you’re a bot, tough luck.

Real Gamers Only, Please

Razer’s Razer ID system already lets players log into its various services—game boosting, hardware settings, payments, and a rewards program. But now, it’s going a step further by integrating with games to offer ‘human-only’ lobbies. No more suspiciously perfect headshots from a “new player” with a default profile picture.

Game developers also stand to gain from this. The system will help them keep bots out, reduce in-game harassment, and ensure that the sweaty tryhard you’re up against is, in fact, a real person.

First Stop: Tokyo 2124

The first game to embrace this bot-proof system is TOKYO BEAST, a futuristic battle game set in the year 2124. Think high-stakes strategy, prediction-based combat, and, of course, NFT integration—because what’s a modern game without a touch of blockchain? Since TOKYO BEAST involves digital ownership, player authentication is even more critical. After all, no one wants to lose their hard-earned in-game assets to a bot swarm.

On top of that, the game will also integrate Razer Gold, Razer’s all-in-one payment service, making it easier for players to buy digital content and in-game goodies.

Bots Are Ruining Multiplayer – & Players Have Had Enough

A third-party survey conducted by Echelon Insights and commissioned by Tools for Humanity found that AI-driven bots are wreaking havoc in online games. Some highlights:

  • 59% of gamers say they regularly encounter third-party bots.
  • 71% believe these bots ruin multiplayer competition.
  • 74% say they make games less fun.
  • 18% have rage-quit a game permanently because of bots.

And here’s the kicker—77% of gamers think proving one’s humanity online is crucial. In short, people want to know they’re up against an actual human, not some AI script running on a second monitor.

The Future of Human-Only Gaming

Co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alex Blania, World’s verification tech ensures that only real humans make it past the gates—without storing personal data. Unlike traditional ID checks, World ID doesn’t care who you are, just that you exist. This keeps things fair while protecting player anonymity. Wei-Pin Choo, Razer’s Chief Corporate Officer shared his thoughts:

“AI is reshaping gaming, and we want to give gamers the tools to navigate this shift safely. By verifying real players, we’re making sure games stay competitive, immersive, and actually designed for humans.”

Tiago Sada, Chief Product Officer at World, echoed this sentiment:

“World ID allows players to differentiate between real human interactions and AI-driven nonsense, all while maintaining privacy.”

Where Can You Sign Up?

Gamers can now verify themselves through the World App using their Razer ID. The system is available in over 20 countries, including the US, Malaysia, Japan, and Germany.

The war against bots has begun. Whether it actually works? We’ll have to wait to find out.
