Netflix, Capcom, and Studio Mir’s Devil May Cry animated series is out right now, and it’s a chaotic blast of an action show with a bit of heart amidst the demon guts and gore. It’s also one of Capcom’s better adaptations, given the Dragon’s Dogma Netflix show’s reputation for being dogs*** and the Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild animated movie being middling at best.

As with all quality video game to film/TV show adaptations, Devil May Cry has references and easter eggs in spades. It’s not an egregious amount, but it’s enough to make you think that somehow all of Capcom’s worlds from Resident Evil’s zombie-filled earth to even Darkstalkers are somehow combined with Dante’s world. Anyway, here is a video we did pointing out nods and winks left and right.

A couple we missed on the video:

-A scientist named Goldstein was mentioned in Episode 3 when Mary was talking about her prototype guns and her secret weapon in the briefcase. That’s a reference to the weapon-making Goldstein family; the latest successor in the games is Nico Goldstein, the cheery & bubbly weapons scientist in Devil May Cry 5.
-The elite soldiers outfits in Darkcom (the ones with the visors and shoulder pads) look like they’re inspired by the Capcom hero Captain Commando, in the 90s beat-em-up Captain Commando. This hero also made his playable appearance in the Marvel VS series.
-The world the demons are from is referred to as Makai. That’s the same name of the demon realm in the Darkstalkers/Vampire fighting game series (ie: the one starring Morrigan and Felicia).
