Fans of free-to-play games and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona titles who can’t read Japanese can look forward to this bit of news.
Persona 5: The Phantom X, the mobile JRPG follow-up to Persona 5, will be out in English on 26 June for iOS and Android mobile devices. The game is published by Atlus and made by Black Wings Game Studio. Here’s the plot:
“After awakening from a nightmare, the protagonist is thrust into a changed world drained of hope… And the new faces he encounters are no less strange: an eloquent owl named Lefaye, a long-nosed man and a beauty donned in blue. As he navigates the mysterious realms of the Metaverse and the Velvet Room, and grapples with ruinous visions that threaten his everyday life, he must discover what there is to take from this new world—and all in true Phantom Thief style.”
Gameplay-wise, it features turn-based combat, exploration, and bonding with friends on schooldays and whatnot: what you would expect from a Shin Megami Tensei: Persona game, but on mobile.
The game first launched in China on 12 April 2024, so this makes it the first time the JRPG is out in English.
