The Avatar Series Is Getting A New Fighting Game In 2026

Nickelodeon’s Avatar series -the one featuring martial arts and elemental bending- is getting its own fighting game next year.

Made by Gameplay Group, a relatively new game development company, the fast-paced one-versus-one fighting game will be coming to PC and consoles -PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4. Here’s an overview:

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a fighter rooted in the spirit of elemental mastery. Designed for both newcomers and veterans, it channels the energy of classic fighting games while breaking new ground in movement, style, and combat expression. Built with a focus on fluidity, responsiveness, and online integrity, the game invites players to discover what it truly means to fight with purpose. Hand-drawn in 2D, it is crafted to preserve the style and expressive animation of the original series.

So far, it looks like a fighting game made after the Street Fighter 4 boom, tailored for Xbox Live Arcade. I don’t mean that as a slight; it just has that look and movement so far that doesn’t scream “US$70”, thankfully. Games are getting expensive, so it’s good that there are titles being made by smaller teams but still have a core essence of what they’re trying to pull off. In this case, a 2D hand-drawn art style fighting title.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be out in Summer 2026.
